The first chiropractic adjustment occurred back on September 18th, 1895. This is what started the Chiropractic profession and has ended up changing millions of lives! Since the first adjustment Chiropractic has evolved and developed in many different forms. It started from one single, specific technique and now has gone to over 250 different types of chiropractic techniques. The wisdom that started back in the early 1900s is now proving to be true. And what a blessing it has been for us to be a part of this profession for a couple years and already seeing positive change in thousands of human beings already!
When we talk about chiropractic many people find it crazy that we don't mention any neck pain, back pain or headaches. As chiropractic can help people that are experiencing pain, it was not started for that reason. Actually, most people who went to a chiropractor back then, were not going for pain issues. They were going for quality of life issues.
D.D. Palmer was the founder of chiropractic and his main goal was to help people stop using wheelchairs, canes, and walkers to better the quality of life. Since Chiropractic is not designed for neck pain, back pain, and headaches then what did the first patient go to D.D. Palmer for?
William Harvey Lillard was a janitor in D.D. Palmer’s building and he started to suffer from deafness 17 years prior to his first adjustment. Overtime, Lillard started losing his hearing and he mentioned it to D.D. one afternoon. D.D responded with “I have discovered something that might be able to help you!” Long story short, the first adjustment was given (like pictured below) and within a few days Harvey’s hearing was almost restored back to 100%!
Chiropractic is a profession that does not treat any conditions, illnesses, diseases or symptoms. The reason why Harvey had his hearing return back was because D.D. provided a Chiropractic adjustment that helped restore the function of his nervous system. You see, your body is designed to heal, organize and regulate itself. It is built within your DNA. The role of any doctor is to find what is blocking this healing potential, remove the blockage and let the healing process be facilitated.
An analogy would be having a kink in a hose. When the kink exists there is less water flowing to the plants. In the beginning of the process it is not going to kill the plants but they are also not getting the full 100% of water that they need. Overtime, the plants will start to wilt and slowly age faster than normal. Once you remove the kink in the hose those plants will slowly return back to life. Your nervous system is this hose and the water is the life it gives to every cell, tissue and organ in your body. Thankfully, this process takes a very long time to reach the wilting point but the issue in our society is that we wait. We wait until we get to the wilting point instead of making sure we don't have any kinks in the first place. A chiropractor will remove those kinks, which can result over time in an improved quality of life, health, peak performance, improved energy/sleep, and a better version of you every single adjustment.
